Grace Church's partnership with
Memminger Elementary School

Grace's Memminger team is devoted to supporting Memminger’s staff and students. Our goal is to enrich the children's learning experience by helping in the classroom, by facilitating field trips, and by assisting with other activities directly connected to academic achievement. Above all, we want to be a loving presence within Memminger and encourage the students to succeed as they learn and grow.

Room Parents
Managed by Helen Britton, Melinda Hamilton, and Ellen Muenzen
We will provide room parents to teachers who request them. Grace Room Parents can be a source of help, in addition to the Memminger families, to the teachers and students. The teacher and the Grace volunteer share responsibility for the success of the Room Parent Program. A Room parent will commit the time and effort to volunteer and the teacher will commit to communicating with the Room Parent and providing tasks for the volunteer upon arrival.

We will attempt to match up volunteers and teachers based on expectations and schedules of both the teacher and volunteer. We ask that a teacher sign up for a volunteer and list some specific tasks that he or she could delegate to a volunteer. The teacher will also indicate how often he or she would like assistance (how often should the volunteer come, and how long should he or she stay?) We will also ask each volunteer to specify what tasks he or she is willing to perform and his or her schedule constraints.

Examples of things that a room parent could do: help host Holiday parties (i.e. bring snacks and goodies for parties, help set up the parties, help provide craft projects), help celebrate student birthdays on a monthly basis, tutor individual or small groups of students, be a reading buddy or “special” buddy to a student who may need someone, help monitor centers, help with computer use, do tasks for the teachers (help put up bulletin boards, make projects, make copies, laminate, cut out projects, assemble weekly work for students, the list can go on and on…), help organize/plan field trips….

On Call Committee
Managed by Margaret Allen

This is a group of volunteers from Grace Church who have volunteered to be available to help a child who may have emergency need (such as a winter coat or a new uniform). Teachers need to let Cheryl Hughes know if they have a child who needs something. Cheryl will email Margaret Allen with the need and the sizes of clothing. Margaret calls the volunteers, who will go and purchase the items and deliver to Memminger.

The Memminger Barrel
Managed by Melinda Hamilton
The big blue barrel that usually lives at the back of the church is for collecting needed items for Memminger, such as breakfast bars, Kleenex, school supplies, etc… In Words of Grace and in the weekly Bulletin, there is usually a suggestion for what to contribute each month. We need help managing this barrel. Because Grace parishioners are so generous, the barrel gets filled before we know it! We need volunteers to be in charge of the barrel for a month at a time. This means keeping an eye on the barrel for your month, and when you see that it is close to being full, delivering the items to Cheryl Hughes, the Memminger school nurse.

Field Trip Fund
Managed by Helen Britton, Melinda Hamilton, and Ellen Muenzen
More information to follow. We will more than likely be able to offer this fund again, but have to wait until our budget is set to release the details.
